in Staufen im Breisgau, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

This unusual cast iron through-arch (bowstring) bridge crosses the Neumagen River.

Span 12.6m. Width 7.2m.

The bridge was built at its present location (in 1871?) re-using arches from a railway bridge erected in 1845 at Kenzlingen-Hecklingen. The deck is supported by riveted wrought iron plate and bar cross girders. Each cross girder is suspended from the cast iron arch girders by two pairs of forged iron rods. These have suspension eyes at the top, which engage with pins located in bosses in the cast iron girders. The bottom of the rods is threaded for large octagonal nuts.

See Stucturae entry for more information and high resolution photographs.[1]
