1855 The Spennymoor & Tudhoe Gas Co. Ltd. was formed

1857 Thomas Street Gasworks built

1876 Dissolved and re-incorporated by an Act of Parliament as the Spennymoor and Tudhoe Gas Company

1897 Gasholders built south of the railway line in Wear Street.

1933 The Spennymoor and Tudhoe Gas Co. absorbed the Coxhoe Gas Company.

Gasworks built in Wear Street.

1940 Thomas Street Gasworks had closed.

1949 The remaining plant and site was vested in the Northern Gas Board

unclear when the gas works closed

1992 Gas holders removed.
