1854 The Southend Gas Light and Coke Co. was formed.

1877 The company was incorporated as the Southend Gas Company.

The 1892 and 1898 Southend Gas Acts allowed for the expansion of works and the building of a pier jetty (1898).

1911 The Southend company started to provide Leigh-on-Sea with a bulk supply

1919 The company took over the Rochford Gas Co and closed the works but they were not not dismantled until 1936, supply was provided from Southend works.

1919 Changed its name to the Southend-on-Sea District Gas Company.

1923 Took over the Leigh-on-Sea gas company.

1931 Taken over by the Gas Light and Coke Co.
