SILVANUS WILLIAM JENKIN, born at Redruth on the 24th July, 1821, died at Liskeard on the 26th August, 1911, aged 90.
After gaining his early practical experience on railway construction in the west, he commenced independent practice at Liskeard, where, either alone or in conjunction with others, and latterly with his son, he was identified with the execution of many important railway, water-supply, drainage, and other works in the county.
He was appointed County Surveyor for East Cornwall in 1856 and held this office until his death.
Mr. Jenkin was elected on the 3rd April, 1860, a Member of The Institution, with which he was thus connected upwards of 50 years.
