"SCOTT CRONE retained a close connection with engineering in the Glasgow district throughout his professional career.
He was born in 1890, and received his technical training (which extended over ten years) in mechanical and electrical engineering at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow. His apprenticeship was served in the same city with Messrs. Strain and Robertson, constructional engineers, from 1906 to 1908, and with Messrs. Yarrow and Company, Ltd., from 1908 to 1914.
In the following year he joined the Royal Navy as an engine-room artificer; later he was promoted to chief E.R.A. and appointed engineer officer of watch. During this period he obtained his Second-class Board of Trade Certificate. On demobilization, in 1919, he received an appointment as boiler and steam-plant superintendent for the Calico Printers Association, with responsibility for erection and reconditioning at eight Scottish branches. After holding this position for six years he became a partner in the firm of Messrs. Crone and Proctor, engineers and agents. On the dissolution of the partnership a year later Mr. Crone continued in business in Glasgow as sole partner in the firm of Messrs. J. Watson and Company, engineers, until his death, which occurred on 14th May 1949. He was elected an Associate. Member of the Institution in 1945."
