1779 Advert: 'SAMUEL WELLWOOD, Late of COLIHURST, Takes the Liberty of Acquainting the PUBLICK, That he and his Partner have begun Business, at Smithel's Forge, near Bolton, where they make and repair all kinds of Cranks for Coal Works, Iron work tor Callenders, Axle-Trees for Waggons, Carts, and all sorts of Carriages, Draw Stroke or Tyre, Iron for Wheels of all Kinds, both out of old Strokes, and make new from their own Iron; Smiths Anvils, Hammers, Spades, and Edge Tools, large Screws for Presses, &c. with every other Article in the heavy Way. They humbly sollicit the Encouragement of all that may want any Thing in their way; hope that assiduous Attention to the Execution of Orders, both with respect to expedition, and the goodness of the Articles, they will merit the future Favours of those who please to employ them.
N. B. Any who reside in Manchester, or in the Neighbourhood, will have their Goods laid down at theWhite Lion, Deansgate, free of expence; and at the Old Wool-Pack Bolton.'[1]
