1817 Advert: 'Samuel Lees, Roller Manufacturer, Holts, near Oldham. BEGS leave to return thanks to his Friends, the Cotton Spinners and Machine Makers, for their kind support for many years past; also inform them, that he has built a new Mill, capable of holding 80 roller lathes, with forging, fluting, and every thing necessary for making rollers to that extent ; and that the business is now carried on under the firm of "Lees and Beaumont," at Soho Forge, Oldham, where they hope, by strict attention, to merit continuance of their favours. PRICES. 16-inch Mule Rollers, 1-inch front, back and middle 6s. 6d. per box. Tops for ditto thread Bosses 4 6 per doz. Drawing Rollers 0 9 per lb. Top ditto. 0 6 do. Feeding Rollers 0 8 do. - Also, on Sale, a very good Steam Engine, 4 1/2 horse power, Bolton and Watt's principle, —(one concern).'[1]

1825 Advert: 'ROLLER MAKING; Soho, near Manchester, SAMUEL LEES is grateful to Cotton Spinners, and Machine Makers, for their liberal support for thirty years past and begs leave to inform them he is now able to serve them with best ROLLERS, made from hard iron, at the following prices. ....' 1839 'Robbery of Counting House. - On Friday night, or Saturday morning, the counting house of Messrs. Samuel Lees and Sons, Soho iron and roller making works, Greenacres Moor, Oldham, was entered, in what manner is not accurately known, ... The watchman of the premises was in a state of intoxication on Saturday morning.'[3]
