SAMUEL JACKSON, C.I.E., born on the 21st August, 1845, at Attercliffe, Yorks., died at Tunbridge Wells on the 23rd October, 1911.
He gained his early practical experience on the staff of the Great Northern Railway, afterwards serving for 6 years as Assistant Locomotive Superintendent.
He was for 20 years, from 1871 until his retirement in 1891, in the service of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, from 1875 holding the position of Chief Locomotive and Carriage Superintendent. He was a colonel of the Engineer and Railway Volunteer Staff Corps, and received his C.I.E. in 1883.
Mr. Jackson was elected a Member of The Institution on the 4th April, 1882.
