Samuel Gratrix Ltd. of Quay Street, Manchester.

1820 Samuel Gratrix, aged 29, set up in business serving the plumbing and building trades from a small shop in Bridge Street, Manchester.[1]

Lead Manufacturing was based at the company's Lead Mill, Phillips Park Road, Manchester.[2]

1890 The company was incorporated[3]

1941 The premises in Quay Street, Manchester, and Bradford were damaged.

1945 Production was concentrated at a factory at Trafford Park.

Post-WWII: Manufacturer of domestic water tanks, complete factory-built plumbing units, lead pipe and sheet, etc, builders merchants and electrical wholesaler, and a glass department. Gratrix Holdings was incorporated as a public company; Samuel Gratrix Ltd was the operating company with two subsidiaries; Byrom Manufactures Ltd and Gratrix (Leeds) Ltd.[4]

1958 Acquired by Robert Benson, Lonsdale and Co[5]
