1787 February 14th. Born the son of Cephas Childs.[1]
1815 March 25th. Married Elizabeth Wood at Westminster
1833 Partnership dissolved. '...the Partnership heretofore existing between the undersigned, Charles Freeman and Samuel Childs, of Green-Street, Leicester-Square, and of Earl's-Court, Middlesex, as Wax-Bleachers and Wax-Chandlers, was this day dissolved by mutual consent...'[2][3]
1837 Listed at 11 Green street, Leicester Square.[4]
1841 Listed as 'Childs Samuel, wax and tallow chand. 11 Green street, Leicester Square'.[5]
1841 Living at Earls Court, Kensington: Samuel Childs (age c54), a Wax Chandler. With his wife(?) Elizabeth Childs (age c45) and their children Samuel Childs, Junr (age c22), a Wax Chandler; George Childs (age c19), Engraver on Wood; Elizabeth Childs, Junr (age c17); Mary Childs (age c16); Louise Childs (age c14); Maria (age c12); Harriet (age c11); Agnes (age c10); Eleanor (age c8); and William Childs (age c5).[6]
1849 Sold his night-light manufacturing business to Prices Patent Candle Co.
1851 Living at 10 Forbury, Reading: Samuel Childs (age 67 born Shepperton), a Retired Wax Chandler. With his wife Elizabeth Childs (age 56 born Chelsea) and their children Mary Ann Childs (age 25 born Kensington) and Eleanor Childs (age 18 born Kensington). Two servants.[7]
1861 Living at Sunbury, Mddx: Samuel Childs (age 74 born Shepperton), a Land and House Owner and Widower. With his daughters Mary Ann Childs (age 34 born Kensington), a Music Teacher, and Ellenor Childs (age 28 born Kensington). Also a visitor and one servant.[8]
1870 August 21st. Died
