Samuel Bastow (c1808-1885) of Cliff House Ironworks
1859 of Cliffhouse Iron Works, West Hartlepool.[1]
1861 Living at Melbourne House, Stockton-on-Tees: Samuel Bastow (*age 53 born Lowmoor), Engineer Master employing 100 men and 20 bows. With his wife jane, son Samuel and daughter Eliza.[2]
1881 'Mr Samuel Bastow, engineer and contractor, who carried out many public and private works of importance.....In 1881 Mr Bastow, sen., erected and owned the Cliff House Ironworks, West Hartlepool, and at a later date he built the Carlton Ironworks, the Train Warehouses on the West Hartlepool Docks, and the High Water Pier Margate'.[3]
Had son Samuel Bastow, Junior who died in 1923.
