A version of the B.E.3/4 but with a 140 hp Gnome engine. Designed by John Kenworthy it first flew on 28th February 1913 with Geoffrey de Havilland as pilot and handed over to the Royal Flying Corps the same day.

On 2nd May 1913 it made a new British altitude record of 8,400 feet with Major Gerrard piloting and accompanied by two mechanics.

Just one plane made and given the serial number 438.
