Rowland Hill (1795-1879)
Sir Rowland Hill, Postmaster General
1795 Born at Kidderminster.
1837 Rowland Hill proposed a universal postal service in the UK based on prepayment of the items on a weight-basis and what eventually became adhesive stamps.
1840 With Hill's post office reform in 1837, this saw the introduction on the first penny stamps.
Became a fellow of the Royal Society.
1879 Died after being unwell for some time. [1]
