He entered the Royal Naval Engineering College, Keyham, in 1932, and, after qualifying as Lieut. (E.) in 1936, took a two years' course in advanced engineering at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. He then went to sea as senior watchkeeping officer in [[HMAS Sydney]] and, a year later, was appointed engineer officer in [[HMAS Vendetta]]. His next ship was the [[HMAS Quickmatch]] and on promotion to the rank of Lieut.-Cdr., in 1944, he was posted to Australia House, London, as assistant engineer officer on the liaison staff. Subsequently he was promoted to the rank of Cdr. (E.) and served in [[HMS Australia]]. Commander Farnsworth was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1946." | |||

"Cdr. (E.) RONALD THOMAS FARNSWORTH, was born in 1914, and was educated at Sydney Grammar School and the Royal Australian Naval College, Jervis Bay.
