c1831 Born at Leeds the son of Thomas Tannett

1851 Living at Green Terrace, Hunslet, Leeds: Thomas Tannett (age 40 born Malton), Master Machine maker employing 262 hands. With wife Mary (age 42 born Leeds) and children Robert Tannett (age 21 born Leeds), a Machine Maker; Ann (age 16), Louisa (age 14), John Tannett (age 11);, William Tannett (age 8);, Emily (age 5) and a visitor Elizabeth Tannett (age 35 born Malton) [1]

1861 Living at Cross Flatts, Beeston: Thomas Tannett (age 51 born Malton), Master Machinist and Widower. With his son Robert Tannett (age 31 born Leeds), Master Machinist; his daughter Louisa Pflaum (age 24 born Leeds); his son John T. Tannett (age 21 born Leeds), Machine Draughtsman; his son-in-law John F. A. Pflaum (age 28 born Dusseldorf); and his sister Elizabeth Tannett (age 44 born Malton). One servant.[2]

1871 Living at West Hill, Headingley, Leeds: Robert Tannett (age 41 born Leeds), Engineer (Employing 321 men). With his wife Sarah Tannett (age 32 born Leeds) and their two sons; John C. Tannett (age 9 born Leeds) and Thomas Tannett (age 5 born Leeds). Two servants.[3]

1891 Living at Rosemount, Brunswick, Leeds: Robert Tannett (age 61 born Leeds), Retired Mechanical Engineer. With his wife Sarah Tannett (age 52 born Leeds) and their son John C. Tannett (age 29 born Leeds), Mechanical Engineer Draughtsman. Two servants.[4]

1898 Died. 'OBITUARY. MR. ROBERT TANNETT. OF LEEDS. We have record the death, the age of 68. Mr Robert Tannett, of Rose Mount. Chapel Allerton. Leeds. The deceased gentleman was the eldest win of the late Mr. Thomas Tannett, one the founders of the firm of Smith, Beacock, and Tannett, machine tool makers and engineers, Water lane For a good many years Mr. Tannett worked his father, and, in conjunction with the late Mr. Benjamin Walker, he subsequently founded the firm of Tannett, Walker, and Co., the well known engineers and boiler makers, Leeds, but severed his connection with this firm about seven ten years ago. He never took any part in public affairs, his health and disposition alike precluding him from doing so. He had been in failing health for nearly a year, and died early hour yesterday morning. He will interred at wood Cemetery on Monday next, at noon'[5]
