ROBERT SIDNEY HINDLE was born in Salford on 24th February 1874.
He was educated at the Manchester Central School, and served an apprenticeship with Messrs. Mather and Platt, Salford Iron Works, from 1889 to 1895. During the latter period he also studied at the Salford Iron Works Institute.
In 1897 he entered the drawing office of Messrs. Thomas Lister and Co., Ltd., brassfounders, of Brighouse, Yorks, and subsequently succeeded to the management. During the latter period he developed the design and manufacture of high-class boiler mountings, valves, &c.
In 1904 be was engaged by Sir W. H. Bailey and Co., Ltd., of Salford, as their London representative, and this position he held until his death which took place on 19th May 1918, at the age of forty-four.
He was elected an Associate Member of this Institution in 1905.
