ROBERT GRUNDY BROOKE founded, in partnership with Mr. H. Holden, the firm of Holden and Brooke at Salford in 1882 and since that time had been granted a large number of patents dealing with injectors, steam traps, feed-water heaters, steam driers and oil separators.
During recent years he had directed his attention particularly to the improvement of injector design so as to enable injectors to deal with hot feed-water at very high steam temperatures and over a wide working range.
Mr. Brooke served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Sharp, Stewart and Company, and was subsequently appointed assistant works manager. Whilst occupying this position, he took charge of the construction and delivery of a hundred locomotives for the Paris, Lyons and Mediterranean Railway.
Mr. Brooke, who had been chairman of the firm of Holden and Brooke for a great many years, died on 3rd July 1929, at the age of 72, and had been a Member of the Institution since 1892.
He was educated at Owens College, Manchester.
