1927 Obituary [1]
ROBERT BRIDGE commenced at a very early age to work in a foundry owned by his father, the late Mr. David Bridge.
He subsequently gained experience in a paper mill and a cotton mill and with a firm of engineers in Lancashire.
In 1896 Mr. David Bridge commenced the manufacture in Salford of Heywood and Bridge's patent friction clutch, his son Robert developing the business.
In 1900 new works were built at Castleton, near Manchester, and the manufacture of other types of machinery was taken up. Through Mr Bridge's foresight the firm were able to supply machinery as early as 1907 for the rubber plantation industry, and eventually the manufacture of all kinds of millwrights', hydraulic rubber, cable, and general engineering machinery was undertaken.
Mr. Bridge was born in 1866 and died on 25th December 1927 at his residence in Colwyn Bay.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1917.
