ROBERT BARR CAMERON was born at Johnstone, near Glasgow, on 3rd May 1869.
He received his elementary and scientific training at the public school, Johnstone, near Glasgow, the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, and at the Royal College of Science, London.
From 1884 to 1890 he served an apprenticeship in the engineering works of Messrs. Craig and Donald, of Johnstone, and was subsequently engaged as draughtsman for two years in the machine tool works of Messrs. William Robinson and Sons, of the same town.
He was afterwards re-engaged by Messrs. Craig and Donald as leading draughtsman, and during this period he assisted with the designs of machinery for Messrs. J. and G. Thomson, Clydebank, and other shipbuilding firms.
In 1895 he entered as draughtsman the torpedo department of Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., and in 1897 was appointed assistant teacher of mathematics and mechanical science at the Municipal Technical School, Brighton.
His death took place suddenly at Brighton on 20th March 1903, in his thirty-fourth year.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1898.
