Richard Talbot Snowden-Smith
Richard Talbot Snowden-Smith (1887-1951), a very prominent pilot before WWI; he gained Aviator's Certificate No. 29.
1887 Born in St Austell, Cornwall
Educated at Sandhurst
1906 Commissioned into the Army Service Corps in 1906.
1910 He began flying, he was Blondeau's second pupil to win his Certificate at Brooklands and the first officer on the Active List to do so. He then participated in many trials, including the Brooklands to Brighton Air Race.
Later in his career, he became a major general having served with the ASC/RASC.

1916-1917 - Deputy Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport at the War Office
1917-1919 - Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport at the War Office
1919-1919 - Deputy Director of Supplies and Transport at the War Office
1919-1922 - Assistant Inspector of Mechanical Transport
1922 became an Associate Member of the I Mech E
1925-1926 - Deputy Assistant Director of Transport, Simla, India
1925-1925 - Secretary, Mechanical Transport Advisory Committee, India
1926-1930 - Chief Instructor, Royal Army Service Corps Training College, Aldershot
1931-1933 - Deputy Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport at the War Office
1933-1934 - Officer Commanding Royal Army Service Corps Depot, Feltham
1934-1937 - Assistant Director of Supplies & Transport at the War Office
1937-1940 - Inspector of Royal Army Services Corps at hte War Office
1940-1943 - Director of Supplies & Transport, War Office
1951 Died in London
Sotheby's (1994) Lot 120: Aviator's Certificate No.29 And Other Material relating to Major-General R. T. Snowden-Smith, C.B., C.B.E., M.I.MECH.E., Various dates all contained in a scrap-book, the Certificate dated 15th Nov. 1910 together with early aviation photographs.
