RICHARD OLIVER ORMEROD had been a Member of the Institution for no less than fifty years, having been elected in 1885.
He served his apprenticeship from 1876 to 1879 in the engine works of Messrs. Simpson and Company, of Grosvenor Road, Pimlico, after which he was employed for a year in the drawing office of that firm.
In 1880 he went to South Africa with Mr. J. H. Briggs, M.I.Mech.E., as assistant superintendent during the erection of the pumping machinery for the Kimberley Waterworks Company, and held that position for eighteen months. He afterwards remained with the company for several years, and was subsequently engaged on engineering work at Pernambuco, Brazil.
Since 1900 he had lived in retirement at Cheltenham, where his death occurred on 28th November 1935, in his seventy-sixth year.
