Born at Cullompton the son of Thomas Grant, a farmer.

1881 Residing at 8 High Street, Croydon: Richard Grant (age 32 born Cullompton), Linen Draper. With his brother William Henry Grant (age 29 born Cullompton), Linen Draper. With eight assistants and other staff.[1]
