1819 Born son of William Miller Christy and his wife Ann[1]

1843 With his brother, Alexander, became a partner in the firm of W. M. Christy and Sons; his father stepped back from running the business.

c1850 When his brother Henry returned from Turkey with a sample of loop-pile towelling fabric, Richard recognized its potential commercial value. Samuel Holt, an employee working at the Hillgate Mill, developed a method of manufacturing the towels by machine and so production commenced, creating the "Turkish Towel".

1862 Married Alice Ashworth in Bolton[2]

1871 Richard Christy 51, JP, cotton and linen manufacturer and merchant, lived in Macclesfield with Alice Christy 39, William M Christy 8, Henry E Christy 5[3]

1874 Became Chairman of the firm

1881 Richard Christy 61, JP for Cheshire and Lancashire, lived in Macclesfield with Alice Christy 49[4]

1891 Richard Christy 71, living on own means in Up Marden, Sussex, with Alice Christy 59, William M Christy 28, barrister, Henry E Christy 25, living on own means[5]

1898 Died in Sussex[6]
