1894 Born Reginald Leslie Smith in Paddington, London[1], son of William Smith and his wife Louisa[2]
By 1901 the Smith family had adopted the name Smith-Rose[3]
1914 Graduated from Imperial College with a first class degree in physics
Immediately after graduation Smith-Rose carried out postgraduate work at Imperial College for a short period before going to
1915 Assistant engineer at Siemens Brothers and Co of Woolwich
1915 of Bedford Park, London W; student member of the IEE[4]
1919 Joined the National Physical Laboratory.
1919 of Teddington
1921 Associate of the IEE
1922 Presented a paper on Radio Direction Finding at the IEE
1923 Gained PhD
1939 Superintendent of the radio department (1939–47)
1948 Director of the Radio Research Station, Ditton Park (1948–60).
For two short periods he was acting director of the National Physical Laboratory.
1960 He retired.
1980 Died in Sutton[5]
