1857 Sale of plant and equipment on the premises of the Phoenix Ironworks included a 12 HP direct-acting high-pressure engine, 12-inch cylinder, 2 feet stroke ; cylindrical boiler, 24 feet long, 4 feet 6 inches diameter, with flue through ; cylindrical boiler, 17 feet 6 inches long, 4 feet 6 inches diameter, with 8-horse high-pressure engine on top of boiler, 8 inch cylinder, 2 feet 2 inch stroke; horizontal high-pressure engine, 12-inch cylinder, 2 feet stroke ; new large power planing machine, will plane 12 feet long, 4 ft 4 inches wide, 4 feet high, by Collier; large double-geared shaping machine, 18-inch stroke, 20-feet bed, by Collier ; shaping machine, 16-inch stroke, ditto; double-geared upright self acting drilling machine, by ditto; double geared screwing machine, by Vaughan and Hossack ; double-geared double-wheel lathe, one headstock, will take in a wheel 7 feet diamter, the other 5 feet 6 inches ; two slide rests, bed 24 feet long, 4 feet wide, by Bedlington Engine Company; 18-inch double-geared lathe, bed 12 feet long; 20-inch double-geared slide lathe, compound slide rest, bed 24 feet long; 12½ inch double-geared lathe, with slide rest; two 12 inch double geared lathes, with slide rests, screw face plates, beds 24 feet long, by Bedlington Engine Company ; 11 inch raised to 13½ inch double-geared lathe, slide rest, bed 12 feet long, by Whitworth; 12-inch double-geared lathe, Whitworth ; 12-inch double-geared screw-cutting slide lathe, slide rest, bed 16 feet long, by Collier ; 9½-inch double geared self-acting slide lathe, slide rest, bed 12 feet long ; 7 inch double-geared lathe; 6½-inch double-geared screwcutting self-acting slide Lathe, bed 16 feet ; single speed lathe ; nut cutting machine, Nasmyth ; boring bar, 7 feet inches long, .... boiler makers' tools, punching and shearing machine, by Whitworth ; lever punching and shearing machine, plate bending machine, will take in plate 4 feet wide ; bellows, two wood sheds, foundry crane, large and small ladles, riddles, snovels, crucibles, core boxes, loam boards, joiners and pattern makers shops 12-Inch single speed break lathe, bed 16 feet long; ......
