"We regret to record the death on October 24 of Mr. Percy Clarke, chief engineer and special director of Firth-Vickers Stainless Steels Ltd. Mr. Clarke, who was fifty-nine years of age, was born in Sheffield and educated at the Sheffield Central School and Department of Applied Science, Sheffield University. He commenced his career as an engineering pupil with Cammell Laird and Co. Ltd., joining English Steel Corporation Ltd. when that company was formed in 1929. Following works and drawing office experience he transferred to the electrical department staff and worked on the modernisation of power generating plant. In 1937 he was transferred to the secretarial department. During the war he was engaged on general engineering work in connection with the wartime extension schemes. In 1957 he joined Firth-Vickers Stainless Steels as chief engineer. In 1958 Mr. Clarke was appointed a special director of the company. More recently he was responsible for the construction of the company's recently completed £4 000 000 plate mill plant."
