The company was founded in 1989 as South West Water at the time of the privatisation of the Water Industry in England.

1993 Acquired Haul Waste

1995 Acquired Blue Circle Waste Management.

1998 Changed its name to Pennon Group plc

2004 The company successfully saw off a takeover bid from Terra Firma

2004 Acquired Thames Waste Management

2006 Acquired Wyvern Waste in 2006,

2007 Acquired Grosvenor Waste Management and Skipaway Holdings

2008 Acquired Shore Recycling

The company's main asset is South West Water, which supplies water and sewerage services in Cornwall, Devon and parts of Dorset and Somerset.

It also owns Viridor, a waste management business.

2015 Employs 4,800 persons (Virador 3,000, South West Water 1,400 of these)[1]
