Passerelle (footbridge) Léopold-Sédar-Senghor crosses the River Seine in Paris, downstream of the Pont Royal and upstream of the Pont de la Concorde. Attractive and elegant (photos 1 & 2), pleasing in concept (3), with the quality of detail design and construction bearing close scrutiny (3 & 5). Although the initial impression is of elegant simplicity, the work of the fabricators was far from simple, in view of the amount and variety of profiling and welding required.

Previously called Passerelle Solférino.

Built 1997-9.

Designer/engineer: Marc Mimram.

Fabricator: Eiffel Constructions métalliques.

Span 106m, length 140m.

See Structurae webpage.
