1818 In this year the Rob Roy, of ninety tons, was built by David Napier. John Scott Russell remembers the vessel was built by Mr. Denny of Dumbarton for David Napier of Glasgow; she had an engine of thirty horsepower made by Mr. Napier. She plied regularly between Greenock and Belfast. This was the first steamboat to perform regular voyages at sea.
In 1821 the 88-ton Rob Roy with a 30 h.p engine established a regular Dover-Calais service taking about 2 hrs.45 mins.
1844 Denny Brothers, in their first year of operation, built an iron paddle-steamer Rob Roy of 30 tons and 15 hp.
