Olaf Kier CBE, 1899–1986

1899 Born in Denmark

1922 Arrived in England[1]

1928 With Jorgen Lotz, formed Lotz and Kier, a construction business[2]

1932 J. L. Kier and Co was formed to take over the civil engineering and building contractor business.

1934 MD of J L Kier and Co

1939 Olaf Kier 40, Director - civil engineer, lived in Wimbledon with Gudrun A Kier 39[3]

1947 Naturalised British

1947 Their only son, Harold, died[4]

Post-WWII: After working on the reconstruction of Rotterdam Docks, Kier was chosen as chair of the Anglo-Dutch Owens Falls Dam project in Uganda[5]

1955 Made Fellow of the Inst of Civil Engineers

1963 Chairman and joint MD of J. L. Kier and Co when it went public.

1976 Retired

1986 Died in Royston[6]
