The Aero Club established its first flying ground at Muswell Manor near Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey in 1909 (familiarly known as "Mussel Manor" or "Muscle Manor"). It was at this ground that John Moore-Brabazon (later Lord Brabazon of Tara) made a flight of 500 yards in his Voisin. This is officially recognised as the first flight by a British pilot in Britain.

We have many many memorials dedicated to the early aviators here, such as the Short Bros, Brabazon, Rolls and Wright Bros etc with pictures memobilia and information in our bar where customers can have refreshments. We also do Sunday roast and B & B of which there are only two double rooms one dedicated to Wrights Bros and the other to Shorts Bros. If there is enough aviation enthusiast I can do a lunch and a talk on how the early aviation pioneers arrived here and why. Also they can have their picture taken at the door where all of the early aviators stood, the famous picture of them all together as the door has now been re-instated as it was 100 years ago. [1]
