"MORRIS HATHAWAY GILL spent the whole of his professional career in the service of the Carbon Main group of collieries, Yorkshire, including his apprenticeship, which he served at Grimethorpe colliery from 1914 to 1917. He was born in 1899 and received his general education at Archbishop Holgate's Grammar School in Barnsley. His theoretical training in mechanical and electrical engineering was obtained at the Barnsley and Doncaster Technical Colleges. After gaining experience as a junior in the drawing office of the Frickley colliery he began, in 1920, his connection with [[Grimethorpe Colliery Co|Grimethorpe Colliery]], which lasted until his death on 13th December 1950. Following five years' service as junior draughtsman, he was promoted to be chief draughtsman and from 1929 to 1938 was engineer-in-charge with responsibility to the consulting engineer for the design, erection, and operation of low-temperature carbonization plant. Finally, in 1938, he resumed his former duties as chief draughtsman. Mr. Gill had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1947." | |||

"MORRIS HATHAWAY GILL spent the whole of his professional career in the service of the Carbon Main group of collieries, Yorkshire, including his apprenticeship, which he served at Grimethorpe colliery from 1914 to 1917.
