Established by George Messier (1896-1933).

1926-31 Made cars.

In 1931 Messier abandoned car production to focus on aircraft landing gear.

The Société Française de Matériel d’Aviation was establsihed by George Messier in 1927. The company was renamed Messier in 1937.[1]

Formed a 50:50 joint venture with the Dowty Group, as Messier-Dowty. Purchased by SNECMA group in 1998. The 2005 merger of SAGEM and SNECMA made Messier-Dowty part of the new Safran company. In 2011, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty was formed through the merger of three Safran subsidiaries: Messier-Dowty, Messier-Bugatti and Messier Services. In 2016, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty became SAFRAN Landing Systems.[2]
