1788 The existing medieval bridge was widened
1811 The old bridge was replaced by a cast iron one. It appears that Thomas Telford sketched the design, and the detail design was the responsibility of Thomas Stanton. Ironwork by William Hazledine, masonry by John Simpson. 55 ft span.[1]. A temporary wooden bridge was constructed by John Carline (2) as an interim measure.
1933 The iron bridge was demolished.
