Matthew Murray: Patents

1790 June 1st. Patent 1752. 'a machine for spinning flax, cotton, silk etc'

1793 December 18th. Patent 1971. ‘instruments and machines for spinning fibrous materials’.

1799 July 16th. Patent 2327. Steam engine. Murray devised a self-acting damper attached to the boiler for regulating the intensity of fire under it, and consequently the production of steam.

1801 August 11th. Patent 2531. An air pump and other parts that amounted to a mechanical stoker. The patent was set aside after objections by Boulton and Watt that part was already known to them

1802 June 28th. Patent 2632. For improved steam engines producing circular motion and included the three-ported slide valve. To make the accurate parallel surfaces he invented a planing machine

1814 March 12th. Patent 3792. Hydraulic press where the ram and table moved together for packing cloth
