This 14-mile long lone opened in 1859 but remained isolated from any other line until the Oswestry and Newtown Railway joined with it in 1863

In 1864 it joined with the Oswestry, Ellesmere and Welshpool Railway, the Oswestry and Newtown Railway and the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway to form Cambrian Railways
