1823 The Company was set up to produce gas from whale oil only. It was assigned different areas of supply including Everton, Kirkdale and West Derby from those of the Liverpool Gas Light Co.

1834 The restriction on the Oil Gas Company was repealed and it was allowed to make gas from coal. Its name was changed to Liverpool New Gas and Coke Co.

1848 For 25 years there was rivalry between the 2 companies before they were amalgamated as Liverpool United Gas Co.
