Lister Electric Light and Power Manufacturing Co - supplied Dursley with electricity
- 1817 George Lister walked from his home town of Liversedge, Yorkshire, to Dursley, Glos., where he gained employment as a card-maker in the wool cloth industry[1].
- Soon after, on inheriting some money, George purchased Rivers Mill, Dursley and developed it into a tanning and card-making and wire-drawing factory.
- George married Charlotte who gave birth to four children, two of whom died young. After Charlotte died in 1832, George married again. His second wife, Louisa, had four sons and four daughters. One of them was Robert Ashton Lister, born in 1845, who went to set up R. A. Lister and Co.
- 1870 George died. His son, William, continued to operate the Rivers Mill business, succeeded by his sons, James Fraser (who described himself as an electrical engineer[2]) and George. They broadened the product range.
