Linde AG, of Germany, global industrial gases and engineering company

1879 the Society for Linde's Ice Machine was founded to commercialise Professor Karl Von Linde's mechanical refrigeration system. One of Linde's 5 partners was a Rhineland brewer who saw the potential of the system.

1907 Established Linde Air Products in the USA

1917 The US subsidiary was acquired by Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation

1992 The Linde division of Union Carbide was spun off as Praxair

1999 Linde AG regained the rights to use the Linde name in USA

2000 Acquired the Swedish gases company AGA AB

2006 Acquired BOC; the materials handling division was spun off, becoming part of KION.

2018 Merger of Linde and Praxair; recognising the common heritage the new group was called Linde plc.
