"LEWIS CECIL GEACH was born in 1874, and for forty-two years was a locomotive engineer in the service of the Midland Railway, both during its independent existence and after its absorption into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. He received his general education at Sherborne School, and obtained his technical training at the Crystal Palace School of Engineering. After serving his apprenticeship from 1892 to 1895 with the Hydraulic Engineering Company, Ltd., of Chester, he became an improver in the drawing office of the locomotive department of the Midland Railway at Derby, and three years later was made foreman at Bromsgrove.
In 1900 he was appointed assistant locomotive superintendent at Bristol, and later took up similar appointments at Kentish Town and Canklow. In 1905 he was promoted district locomotive superintendent, Burton, and he proceeded to Derby a year later. There he became running superintendent in 1907, and superintendent of motive power in 1910; he retired from the latter position in 1927. Mr. Geach, whose death occurred on 29th March 1947, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1902."
