1857 A boiler maker when his daughter, Alice, married in Burnley[2]

1861 Leonard Clayton 40, farmer, lived in Chorlton with May Clayton 48, Mary A Clayton 21, Lawrence Clayton 20, smith[3]

1864 Formed Clayton, Son and Co with his son Lawrence in Leeds.

1881 Boiler and gas holder maker, visiting Richard Hargreaves 59, farm bailiff and Lydia Hargreaves 61 in Bolton[4]

1883 Died in Leeds
