LEONARD BAINBRIDGE ROBINSON, O.B.E., was for twenty-four years manager of the machine shops department at the Parkhead Steel Works of Messrs. William Beardmore and Company, Ltd. He was born in Sheffield in 1888 and studied engineering in the Department of Applied Science at the University of Sheffield.
In 1904 he entered Messrs. Vickers' works as an apprentice and served in the workshops and drawing office until 1909. In the following year he was made assistant to the manager of the machine shops, and was afterwards employed as chief rate fixer.
He was invited in 1913 to take up his position with Messrs. Beardmore, which was similar to that occupied by his father at Messrs. Vickers, Sheffield, for some forty years; he accepted, and occupied this post until his death, which occurred on 15th October 1937, at Burnside, Glasgow.
Mr. Robinson had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1919.
