Early 1800s: The famous bridge-builder, John Rennie (the elder), combined stone with new cast-iron techniques to create previously unheard of low, wide elliptical arches at the Leeds Bridge and elsewhere.
1871 New bridge: Mr David Nichols, of Leeds was the contractor, and Messrs. Butler and Pitts of Stannengley constructed the ironwork.[1]
