Laindon and District Gas Light, Coke and Water Co

Attempts had been made to supply gas to Laindon from the 1870s but no gasworks was built until after the turn of the century. Land had been set aside on the south of the railway to the London side of Laindon Station for a gasworks and a siding was prepared.
1896 Act of Parliament - Laindon Gas & Water Co.
1900 there was no entry in Kelly's Directory but The Gas Works Directory and Statistics noted "Laindon Gas and Water Co. Works not yet commenced".
1901 The Laindon Gas and Water Company Limited was struck off the joint stock companies register - this may have been due to incorporation.
Laindon Gasworks was Off Mandeville Way, Laindon
1906 The Laindon and District Gas Light, Coke and Water Co was registered April 26, 1906.
1908 Directors: E. Eaton, Dr. A. Maclean, W. B. Martin, F. W. Talbot, and H. W. L. Way. Secretary: H. P. Davies, : 99, Cannon Street, E.C.
1912 the Laindon and District Gas Light Coke and Water Company agreed to sell its gas undertaking to the Grays and Tilbury Gas Co. The sale was confirmed by the Grays & Tilbury Gas Act 1913.
By March 1914 (Half-Yearly Meeting) Grays had closed the Laindon works and gasholder and the District was supplied from their HP grid.
