IT is with deep regret that we have to record the death of the Hon. Lady Parsons, which took place at her home at Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland, on Monday last, October 16th, after a long illness. Lady Parsons, who married the Hon. Sir [[Charles Algernon Parsons|Charles Parsons]] in 1883, was deeply interested in her husband's many occupations, and in particular she sponsored the work of women in the engineering industry. She was one of the founders of the [[Women's Engineering Society]], and when, in 1920, eight girls started the engineering business of [[Atalanta]] Ltd. in South London, she assisted the new enterprise and took a keen interest in the firm. She is survived by her daughter, Miss [[Rachel Parsons]], who passed through the Cambridge University engineering school, and during the war served in the training department of the [[Ministry of Munitions]]. | |||

Katharine Parsons nee Bethell
1859 Catharine Bethell was born the daughter of William Froggatt Bethell[1] in Skirlaugh, East Riding of Yorkshire.
1883 Married Charles Algernon Parsons. They had a son and a daughter, Rachel.
1919 Founding director of the Women's Engineering Society[2], supporting her daughter Rachel who became the first president.
