JOSEPH HICKMAN PEARSON died at Handsworth on May 1, 1902, at the age of seventy-two years. He was educated at a private school at West Bromwich, and before he attained his sixteenth year he entered into business.
From the very first he was associated with the iron trade of Staffordshire. Many years ago he acquired the Netherton Furnaces from B. Hingley & Sons, and remained proprietor of them until his death.
He also owned the well-known Parkhouse colliery, North Staffordshire.
Upon the visit of the Institute to America in 1890 he was among the members who represented the Staffordshire district. He was a Justice of the Peace for Staffordshire, and took a prominent share in the public life of Handsworth.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1883.
