Joseph Butler (1797-1870), of Joseph Butler and Co, Stanningley Iron Works near Leeds.
1828 Joseph moved to Stanningley near Leeds, and in partnership with two or three others commenced business in a small way as ironfounders.
In partnership with Mr Taylor as Butler and Taylor, ironfounders, Stanningley, near Leeds.
After a few years, the firm added to their business that of engineering and railway-plant manufacturing.
1838 On the death of Mr. Taylor, Joseph Butler carried on the business until 1851, when it was transferred to his son John Butler, and Joseph Pitts, which later became the firm of Messrs. Butler and Pitts.
