. . . . designed and carried out by him, the sewerage works of Great Harwood, Clayton-le-Noor, Oswaldtwistle, Bacup and Stockport. At Stockport, in addition to the main sewerage of the borough, he constructed a bridge of large span carrying the roadway over the River Mersey at Portwood, as also the works comprised in what was then (1866) known as the St. Peter’s Gate improvement, consisting of the opening up of a main thoroughfare and connecting that portion of Stockport with the market place by means of a high-level bridge. The sewerage works of Prescot and of Ulverston and Kendal were commenced and subsequently finished under the firm of Brierley and Holt, Mr. Brierley having taken into partnership his former Assistant, Mr. Geo.
