JOHNSON SNOW HUDDLESTON, who died at Gidea Park on the 5th August, 1944, at the age of 71, was apprenticed in 1889 to Siemens Bros, and Co. From 1893 to 1896 he worked on the installation of cable mains in various towns, and the following year he transferred to the sales side of the cable department. During the War of 1914-18 he served with the R.N.V.R. In 1918 he left Siemens Bros, and was appointed General Manager of the Union Cable Co., becoming Managing Director in 1932. Soon afterwards he was made Managing Director of Southern United Telephone Cables, and Chairman of United Telephone Cables, holding these positions until shortly before his death. He was also a director of other companies connected with the electrical industry, and was Chairman of the Cable Makers' Association in 1925 and again 1935. He joined The Institution as a Member in 1921.
He was a Freeman of the City of London, an officer of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons, and a member of the Board of Management of the King George Hospital, Ilford. His passing will prove a great loss to a number of good causes to which he was a generous benefactor, and it is deeply regretted by his employees, who regarded him as a friend. He leaves a widow and one son.
