John Vernon (c1820-1874) of McNicoll and Vernon and Thomas Vernon and Son

c.1820 Born in Over, Cheshire, son of Thomas Vernon and his wife Christiana[1]

1841 Married Ann Holmes in Headingley[2]

1849 Dissolution of the Partnership formerly existing between Edward Bury, Timothy Abraham Curtis, James Kennedy, and John Vernon, under the firm of Thomas Vernon and Co., in and near Liverpool, as Iron Ship Builders, Boilermakers, and Smiths, which ceased on the 31st March[3]

1851 Living at 3 Alfreds Place, Park Road, Toxteth Park: John Vernon (age 31 born Winsford, Cheshire), Iron Ship Builder and Engineer Master employing 150 men. With his children Annie Vernon (age 9 born Liverpool); Walter Vernon (age 7 born Liverpool); and Thomas Vernon (age 5 born Liverpool). Two servants.[4]

1856 Iron Ship Builder, Brunswick Dock, Liverpool

1856 Civil engineer and shipbuilder; he was consulted on alterations to SS Great Britain to adapt her for the Australian trade[5]

1861 Iron ship builder, lived in West Derby, Liverpool with Ann Vernon 42, Walter Vernon 17, Benjamin H Vernon 14[6]

1866 of Iron Ship Building Yard, Brunswick Dock, Liverpool

1867 Death of his son Benjamin Holmes Vernon age 21.[7]

1867 of Regent Road, Sandon Dock, Liverpool

1871 Living at Oakfield, Little Woolton (Liverpool): John Vernon (age 51 born Davenham, Cheshire), Shipbuilder and Engineer employing 70 men and 20 boys. With his wife Ann Vernon (age 53 born Leeds) and their son Thomas Holmes Vernon (age 25 born Liverpool), a Commercial Clerk. Two servants.[8]

1874 Died at Litherland Park age 54. Shipbuilder.[9]
